Default Checking in on my USA Tour

Just wanted to pass along to everyone the great ride I've been on for almost 3 weeks now. Started my 'military retirement' tour in Northern Virginia, and headed west to Arizona, via I-40, as had some business. But made up for the interstate this past week. Stayed at my daughter's house in Apache Junction AZ, and followed my son in law to work (works in Kearney), and went on the copper mine loop from Apache Junction - Superior - Winkelman - Globe. Left Apache Junction and headed up to Flagstaff via Payson - Strawberry - Cottonwood - Oak Creek Canyon. Left Flagstaff on Tuesday and headed up through Monument Valley, then on into SE Utah, then Durango - Silverton, overnighted in Ouray CO. 11000 foot passes and the bike didn't even blink. Left Ouray yesterday morning and continued thru the Rockies to NE of Denver, and then on into Wyoming, and stayed in Wheatlands WY last night. Got up early today and headed NE into the Black Hills, saw Rushmore, lunch in Deadwood, then the obligatory stop in Sturgis for a couple t-shirts, and here I am staying in Wall on my way back east to Virginia. It's been a great ride, once I'm home, I'll try to post some pics, what few I have. Anyway, just wanted to check in and share my experience with you all.

That sounds like a great trip. I hope to do a similar ride next year.

Default Congrats

Lone-

First off congrats. I did my retirement run to Vegas...not nearly enough miles (1600). It was a great time and I can tell you I was lost in thoughts of the past 22 years the entire time. Not sure if it was a healing process...or opening a new chapter, maybe both.

I hope you have a soft landing into retirement life...I sure have. I can thank my HD and family for that.

Welcome home, thanks for your dedication and leadership...and may you have great days ahead of you. Looking forward to your pics.

Sounds great man! I retired in 2000 and since then have touched down in the lower 48 and hoping to make it 49 next year with a trip to Alaska. The loop you just made has some of the most beautiful sites this great country of ours has to offer. Congrats and enjoy the ride!
