How To Buy a NEW Harley: 101
#101
Everyone has their own way. I wanted a new charcoal pearl SGS. Not exactly a rare bike. I emailed the 5 closest dealers with the bike and blind copied them all on the email so they would know that the same email was going to multiple dealers, but they wouldn't know which ones. I gave them all details of my trade in, including the VIN and pictures including the odometer. I told them I was going to buy the bike that day and needed their best price out the door by noon.
I then went to my local dealer with the intent of buying it there, but keeping them honest. One of the offers I received beat their best pricing by 4K and they wouldn't even attempt to touch it. I called them, confirmed the deal and they had the bike and paperwork waiting for me when I walked in. Test rode, signed the papers. In and out in 30 minutes, or less.

This is an old post, but in January of 2010, I bought a Street Glide in Black, 20,800 MSRP. Cruise, ABS and Security. Walked out with it for 17,000 flat. (No TAX title) but Prep and all the other crap. There are 4 dealers in the METRO St. Louis area, I called them all near the end of the month, middle of the week. Told them I was GOING to buy a SG this week. What is the best deal they could do. Got offered 3500 in accessories, (Didn't want that,, wanted cash off) ended up with the deal I mentioned above from a new dealer, who wanted to get his name out there. (Bought a dealer from a guy who ran it into the ground, (Bob Shultz)

Went to the dealer, picked from the 3 new bikes on the floor, asked if the markup was high enough, bought the sales team lunch, donated my left kidney, agreed to the highest interest rate plus warranties, declined the 1% discount on a t-shirt and left with my shiney new bike that had only been dropped once. Sounds about right.

Well, time for new updates, anyone?
Who’s told a dealer to “suck it!” and who’s sucked it?
Come on! Needs some folklore…
Last and only new purchase I made was at height of stoopid aka wuhan and bought for a sales bud. Good guy, product wasn’t moving as normal. Before the nationwide welfare checks. I did not score a deal. 35k miles in, happy and content with a 2020 RGS with only aftermarket exhaust and rear shocks. Everything else is HD jewelry as I call it.
