A Sportster Cleans the Thruxton's Clock!
Looks like the Sportster is on a roll. On February 27, a Sportster defeated a field of Triumph Thruxtons in the TransAtlantic Challenge Class at Roebling Road Raceway (Bloomingdale, GA). The Battle of the Twins series pits Triumph Thruxtons against Harley Davidson Sportsters.
In 2007, Brett Donahue, a H-D dealership owner, finished third on his Sportster in the annual Iron Butt Rally. He rode 11,283 miles in 11 days.

Pretty cool. I must admit I like tearing up the tarmac and have ridden 700+ miles per day before. But 11,000 miles in 11 days? That's just crazy! Frankly, looking back on it, even 700 miles a day is excessive. Now my basic rule of thumb that I follow is 500 miles per day maximum. That leaves me plenty of time to enjoy the scenery along the way, stop for a nice long lunch and rest break. Also, that gives me a chance to charge my batteries and enjoy a nice dinner and a good nights sleep in a motel along the way. If I have to travel more than 500 miles per day, screw it...I'll just fly.
