What's more important? Looks or comfort? Or both?
I would assume that since we all ride Harley's the looks of our bikes are important to us all. Of course different strokes for different folks with chrome, black, and family of bike we ride. When I first bought my bike I was concerned more about the looks than the handling and comfort available to me. I was not aware at the time that I was going to be riding it as much as I do. I did not realize that the comfort factor would come into play.
The funny thing to me know is that I had to have a Fatboy because of the solid wheels. That was what really set it off for me. Since then I have switched to spokes. Everything that I thought was just how I wanted it when I got has been changed. I mean everything. Comfort started to come into play when I started taking trips. Longer rides begged me to ask the question what I could do to make it feel even more like an armchair. Thus HG was born. Really, a happy marriage of both is necessary for me to be happy with my bike. These bikes are quite expensive and to purchase one and not ride it due to issues with comfort is the kind of thing that would knaw at me forever. I could hear my wife saying "You got the damn thing, why don't you ever ride it. You should have bought me a big fat diamond." Anyway, what I am really getting at here is that if youa re not comfortable (physically) on your bike for longer periods of time there are things that can be changed. Aftermarket vendors have thought of nearly everything. Change the seat, shocks, bars, levers, pedals(brake and shifter of course) and on and on and on. If you want to go faster (been there and done that) build your engine. Get out there and enjoy your bikes and ride them for all they are worth. That's all for now people. Oh yeah, ride to work if you can too. Why the hell not? |
my answer is somewhere in the middle....
BTW I love my floorboard extensions! |
We'll take all the plugs we can get. If I could only get Kobe Bryant to mention them during the next game. :D

I find that looking comfortable is important.
I actually think I've outgrown the looks thing. Most of what I put on my bike is aimed toward comfort or safety and I guess some items like Passing lamps are a little of both. I put a Crossbones seat which many think are Butt-Ugly to get me up higher and back a little so My knees wouldn't start hurting after 50 miles or so (I have long legs). I put your Floor board extensions on to get my feet off the engine cases and pipes and an extended heel shift lever to allow me to actually take advantage of the entire floorboard area. I also however did switch to the early style half moon floorboards because I like the way they look. I guess the fishtail pipes were installed for the same reason. OMG!! I just realized I still am into the looks thing as well. Never Mind. |
Comfort, then looks.

Well, being sort of a young'un, looks are where it's at. The Nightster is certainly not the most comfortable bike around, and it'll be an adventure riding the thing 2500 miles to the Wall...but I have found even my comfort stuff has to have the 'right' look, so it's a slow process getting everything I want.

For me, when I started riding it was all about just getting out and riding... Looks were very important to me, now I'm trying to find that happy medium between looks and comfort... It's been fun so far trying to find it

Both.
I have added things like Progressive shocks for comfort, but got the chrome covered for looks. Added mini apes for comfort, but did SS cables and did internal wiring for looks. Mustang seat-both. I love doing long rides, but like looking good on the way.:D |
Riding a lowered bike is not about comfort, but Harley chicks ask if they can sit on it when I park it.
