Best DOT approved Low profile Half Helmet?
#81
this looks exactly like the one i picked up from my local harley shop. its about the same size as a novelty helmet. the girl at the store, said they just got DOT approved this year. im just trying to find one in a german style now. ordered one from bikersden.com. and it was a big ugly mushroom helmet. fortunately they have a no hassle return policy.

I found this helmet testing result sheet the Feds (NHTSA) created, http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/Cars/testin...8/2008s218.pdf. They tested one ACC model (EXT-003) and it failed, I'm not sure which model that is. Quite a few other helmets failed as well. I think the manufacturers are somewhat on the honor system when it comes to saying their lid is DOT or not. Can anyone say, false sense of security.
Test your own helmets- if you hold your helmet in front of you with a hand on each side while looking inside the helmet and can push the sides of the helmet together (towards each other)- the helmet moves - the helmet offers very limited protection, like maybe falling down drunk protection. But for sure not anything at speed.

You use to be able to get away with a DOT sticker on a novelty helmet. Not no more.

I just bought two DOT helmets by Skid Lidz, (plain black for me & a black with pink & purple rose for the GF). I'm trying to get use to it, but I'm use to a novelty helmet. The GF says it gives me a slight shroom head look, but not as bad as others we've tried on. They aren't that bad for the price, (~$80 for the two lids). Wish I could have tried'em mine on before I bought, but I'll survive......The novelty lid was worn completely out after nine years.
