huh... think that'll cause a problem?
So I dropped my bike. Couple of weeks ago, got caught in a thunderstorm while on a bunch of dirt roads way back in the backcountry. They treat the roads with a nasty mag-chloride mix to keep dust down, but when it gets wet it turns into slime on top of mud. Suffice to say, you can't even walk on it, let alone ride - I was going 5mph, just power-walking the bike out, and the rear came around too far, forks hit the lock, and over she went - nice lowside, no more than 5mph, and pretty much no damage. After re-adjusting the shift lever, and wiping the mud off, I rode it on home - felt fine. Got home, cleaned it up a little, and dashed out of town. Got back, and started riding again, and something just felt ~wrong~.
When in a turn, I kept noticing that it just didn't feel stable - something was making the rear squirrelly when leaned, almost like it wasn't quite lined up right, or was loose. I double checked the seat - fine. Rear alignment looked fine, or at least very close - rear wheel was good, after I got the mud and rocks out of the spokes (this helped a bit), and went back to riding - but it still felt a little wrong. I got an appointment set up to have the dealer seriously check the alignment of the rear in case I'd knocked it off. Got it out today to take it up, and suddenly spotted what was wrong. Don't know how I missed it the first 3 times I looked... This is my front wheel: http://www.lopoetve.com/images/harley2/wheel1.jpg http://www.lopoetve.com/images/harley2/wheel2.jpg think that'd cause a few issues? ;) It's hard to see, but it's pretty badly bent there. |
That'll do it.

That looks more like curb/pothole damage.
Maybe a pothole you couldn't see put you down? |
BTW...I've had to "re-adjust" my shifter on occasion.

well, rotate it around so that's facing down, and then imagine a lowside where that hits a rock while sliding. Boom, bent out.

Maybe a pothole you couldn't see put you down? It's only one one side too. The other side is fine. |
