That is a good fun ride if you can get below KBB and you don't mind tweaking her a bit.
Nightrider dot com has some goos datat for tuning these real nice.

Is the bike for sale? If so, you should be starting with the owner's asking price, not the other way around. If he's just fishing, then it's perfectly ok to start out low. It's probably worth around 3k give or take a bit. Offer 2500 and if he takes it, then you probably have yourself a pretty good deal.

I agree with the 2500.00 mark. There are way too many newer sportsters out there right now at very good prices. If your budget is up to 4K, I'd keep looking for something newer.

"Being a new rider, I am thinking of starting with a smaller bike and I have been looking for a Sportster."

Sportsters aren't "small" bikes. They have a small frame with a BIG motor. You are going to be in for a big surprise when you twist the throttle on one.

With this economy you can get some great deals on about anything right now, but I have to think that there has to be a minimum price that a bike is worth. It is not an IronHead and it looks well maintained and has very low miles. I've seen nearly prfect almost new 883s for $3500-$4200.

Twenty five would be a great price for a first Harley. I think they said they were even doing a trade for a pick up. $2500 and riding a Harley----I would never of had to have a jap bike in my past!

Default Does the numbers have to match?

I am a Classic Corvette guy. In the Vette world, it means a lot to have the original motor and trans.

In the HD world, does having the original motor add more value to the bike?
If yes, how can I verify this? Will the frame number match the motor/case number?
