Amsoil oil change interval Anyone? 25,000 miles??

I followed the advice of several threads in the "oil" section and purchased Amsoil for my 2004 Heritage Softail. Since I have an account at the store, I just signed the receipt and left. When I got home I noticed I had been charged $99 for 6 quarts of OIL!!! 4 Amsoil 20w-50, 1 10w-40, and one 90w-140 Synthetic gear lube. When I questioned the salesman I was told that Amsoil recommends a 25,000 mile interval between changes on his diesel and no doubt it would last that long in a motorcycle. So, question is...how often do you change Amsoil synthetic oil? At $22.50/qt., I'm pretty sure it is good for more than the requisite 5,000 miles.

Dude the Preferred Customer price online is $8.25 per quart or $32.45 per gallon for their 20W-50 Advanced Synthetic Motorcycle Oil buying it straight from them. I'd suggest paying their $20 per year fee for a Preferred Customer Membership and buying straight from them in the future. At $8.25 per quart I change it at the recommended intervals.

Amsoil 20w-50 motor oil is $10.70/quart.

Both the oil AND the oil filter need to be rated for 25k miles in order for that to work. So the question is, what is your filter rated for? If it's less, change your oil at the lower rating. I have the 25k rated oil and filter in both my car and truck, but I haven't used in my bike so take this for what it's worth.

Man...I'm starting to think I shouldda gotten KISSED! :O After I raised the issue with the guy, he credited my account $33, but said the future price would be the $22.50. $8.50-$10.50 makes regular intervals more palatable. Ummmm, where do I get the "Preferred Customer" price? I bought a WIX oil filter...doubt it's rated for 25k. :(

Man I hate to say it but you got ripped off BIG time. Even without that preferred customer deal you should be able to find it for around half of what you paid for it. Look around online. As for the oil change interval, I personally push it to about 6000-7000 miles and I use Amsoil, Royal Purple, or Mobil 1 depending on what is readily available in the area. I would absolutely not push your bike to 25,000 miles on a change. I bet half the oil would be gone by the time you got there. I'm no authority though so hopefully a real mechanic will comment.

Did he at least use KY? I just got 2 cases of 20w-50 for $205. Ya gotta ask at the dealer for the Preferred Customer spiel.

Go to http://www.amsoil.com/ and you can sign up at the same time you order, your cart will be updated with the new prices at checkout.

If you bought a standard 5k rated filter, your 25k rated oil will still need to be changed after 5k miles. Like others have said, I'm not sure if pushing a Harley to 25k intervals is a good idea anyway. I do like Amsoil, but I normally buy by the case from the web site.

and that is one reason why no matter how good people say it is, i will never use amsoil......

Back to your original question, I change our fluids at 3,500 miles and use either Amsoil or Mobil 1 V-twin.
