Default Why use synthetic oil?

I was wondering if the people here who use synthetic oil use it to extend periods between changes or what..... When i bought my bike the dealer threw in two years free maint. which includes an oil change every 2500 miles and it got me wondering why people use it and if its just a plain waste of money if you change your oil often.

Frankly the reason i use full synthetic oil in my truck is so i dont have to change it very often.

Do you think it extends engine life if used every 2500 miles vs the expense of using synthetic over fossil ?

Cause it's better, lasts longer and the troops like it. Do a search there is a huge amount of comments and some good research documented.

for me, I go 4 to 5 thousand miles between changes. Synthetic is more for piece of mind. My ultra runs a bit cooler with it too, obviously a plus.

Mine runs cooler with synthetic, and I change it every 5k. Keeping an air cooled engine running cool is key to longivity.

Synthetic oil has several advantages over dino oil.
The main reasons for me are:
(1) Synthetic doesn't get like molasses in cooler temperatures. This means the oil is going to get to the engine faster on startup.
(2) Synthetic doesn't break down as fast because it can take higher temperatures.

When I first started thinking about synthetics in the 70's,it was all about performance and dry starts.Synthetics always leave a film,so when you first start your engines they have initial lube until oil pressure takes over.80% of all engine wear occurs in the first few seconds of startup. The other major benefits, less friction, less heat,of course extended oil change intervals. Finally, after taking apart my first engine that had been on synthetics back in the 80's,it was amazing to see how little the engine had actually worn.(It needed rings and valve job).Everything I own with an internal combustion engine has synthetics including all my air compressors!
