I actually prefer the forwards for better control in turns. I still use the mid pegs from time to time but only on longer rides. I also found that the forward controls relieve some of the pressure I felt on my tail bone. I like um.

Road 'em with and without. Had highway pegs on a Low Rider and didn't even want to put feet down to controls. Dyna wide-glide now so always forward. No loss of control whatsoever.

Forward Controls. Beginning riders will have more trouble with Forward Controls since the feet have to move under the rider before they're of any use at preventing a low-speed (or stopped) tip over.

The plus side is that putting your legs forward transfers’ weight forward. This could, potentially, improve handling.

On the other hand, foot rests are designed for the rider to REST his foot on. The forward controls requires you to either press you feet into them or hold your feet on them, just to keep them where they need to be, covering the gear and brake levers. Additionally, pushing forward or pulling back on the levers just isn't as effective as pressing down or rising up the levers is. If you're reading this while sitting down, where are your feet right now? Mine are comfortably underneath my chair, almost directly below my knees. Sticking them out in front of me (even if I rest them on something) is just distracting.

While sitting on the edge of a chair with feet down, stick your legs out as if you were reaching for forward mounted controls. Did you have to lean back to compensate? This natural rolling serves to counter balance the rider's center of gravity (generally near the solar plexus for men), prevents stretching of the hamstring muscles, and relieves pressure from any spare weight you might be carrying around your middle.

Standing on the pegs while riding is no longer an option, something I do A LOT on longer rides. Other riders have complained that leaning back on the tailbone results in a burning pain 'downtown' after a lengthy ride.

I put modified forwards on my Superglide this winter and they're working out pretty good. One benefit is that you can feel the heel of your boot grinding down on corners long before the footpeg hits.

I won't ride anything without at least highway pegs, but my opinion is that forward controls rate up there with some of the best things that have been made for a bike.

I took the floorboards off my Sloptail Springer Classic just because I always rode with forwards and like them. I don't really think they make much of a difference though in terms of effectiveness and control. It's simply something you get used to. Floorboards, mid-controls, forward controls...all just a matter of personal comfort preference in my opinion.

Turning is just as easy with them as without. I just scrape my pegs a little sooner now.
