Difference in Police Issue and Standard Harley
A friend of mine is considering purchasing a 2007 Road King that was built specifically for Police use. The Police department put about 800 miles on it and decided they didn't use it enough. Can someone tell me what the differences would be in a bike thats built for police use and one you'd pick up at your local dealership?
I'm assuming that the police built motorcycle wouldn't have passenger riding in mind, so thats their main concern. Any help?
THANKS!

103", oil cooler.....the run flat tires that are not meant for 2 up riding will prolly be changed out by dealer. all the other stuff like the seat and the radio box bracket come off easily. your friend would prolly change out the seat on a civilian bike anyway, so no big deal. the bags have pucks on top that turn to open and close. these too can be modified somewhat (pop up latches). aside from that, every accessory that will fit on a civilian model (backrests, racks, tourpacks etc.) will fit on the cop model. Oh, and I believe ABS was standard on 07 police bikes.

One other thing to think about, although the mileage is low the hours on the engine may be a different story. We start them, warm them up, ride and shut them down when we get to where we are going. Police may idle for longer periods. That came from one of our sheriffs when I was talking to him.

The brakes have a tendency to lock up whenever passing in front of a Krispy Kreme franchise. There was never a recall issued for this.

The same problem was occurring when the screamin' eagle bikes passed a starbucks franchise so ABS was made available on those as well.
