Default stock harley linkage arms

I was recently on a road trip to York Pennsylvania with about 15 bikes and
one of the bikes had a problem with his shift linkage and it snapped, He tried to get the bike to move but was unaware of the problem and ended up roasting his clutch because he was in 5th gear. Nine of the 15 people pulled over to the side of the road to wait with brokend down bike, 6 of the nine people that I was riding with had the problem of the linkage breaking.
The new shift linkage you can buy comes with a nut and bolt set up and will get rid of this problem

I've never had that problem but have heard of many having it. I'm taking a spare with with me when I go on the Hoka Hey next June just in case.

Another one of those instancies where saving money in production won't hurt a thing.

Its the Stock linkage that is JUNK. Install a good Hiem joint linkage, and the problem is solved.

HD Stock linkage has a "snap-on" ball ind. the reciever is the problem, its spring steel and breaks. Once that happens, the end drops, and you can't shift. With the Hiem, its bolted together, so no longer an issue.

I replaced mine with one of these , form and function. Looks nice and is much more robust than the stock linkage.
