Actually, statistically, it would seem it is the rider's fault about half the time. Something around half of all motorcycle crashes are single vehicle. Of course, among those, some number may involve motorcyclists who maneuvered to avoid another vehicle, which then left the scene.
Full face, full time.
I still remember the sound my helmet made when it hit the ground several times, after I t-boned a car. I wish I had kept it for show and tell. It really did a number on the chin guard, shield and forehead area.
I moved up to a FF helmet for more side wind protection . That was when I was living in Wichita,KS, the windiest place in the known universe. I hadn't gave any thought to the better safety protection until I got in a bad wreck.
Now I live in SW Florida, without the wind problem, but I intend to keep wearing a FF.

When I got back into riding again after a long long layoff being older and wiser I new I wanted a full face but was concerned about.the heat. Since black can be really hot I went with a silver modular FF.The heat was not an issue at all during the summer. The lighter colors make a difference and being able to flip up the chin at lights is nice.

thanks for all the info. i recon i will make the wife happy and start looking for ff. itileman mentioned an armored jacket. i assume that it is personal preference, but what are the advantages/disadvantages, and where you find one? thanks again, GTG
That is another very personal choice. I use a armour summer jacket from Vanson and Langlitz jacket with elbow and shoulder pads Spring winter and fall. Bottom line the armour and pads are there to wearout instead of your skin or elbow.
Make is not so important. But a jacket that fits is very important. A loose or unzipped jacket is useless. The point is if you fall the jacket stays on and put. Not rolls up or around exposing your body or arms. If your jacket is fitting correctly you should look or feel like the Micheln man when riding.
If anything start out visting the local dealer and cycle gear just to try on. Get to know riding jacket do not look or feel like regular apparel. They short in the front and have long arms. When you sit down and reach out it it comes to light.
Doesn't matter what time of year I always were a jacket.
You are asking some relavant questions take your time and enjoy.

Life lesson #1--Don't sell a bike to a friend who is GOING to take the MSF course and GOING to get a helmet. If he survives or not, you will still suffer.
Life lesson #2--An armored mesh jacket is cooler going down the road and a FF helmet is as cool as anything else (including nothing) on a hot day. When you stop, things change.
Life lesson #3--The suits those racers crash in cost more than your bike. They have computer sensors and padded armor based on computer modeling. You don't want to find out how your outfit compares with them.
I high-sided one night on 695, the shoulder was 1.5 inches higher than the roadbed and I didn't see it because there were no streetlights. So as I'm sliding face down across the asphalt I force my head down to try and raise my chest off the surface, new leather jacket/old helmet. So the FF was good for that and riding without a wind screen at hi-way speeds but be careful; I noticed I was more reckless wearing a FF because it gave me the misguided feeling that I was enclosed than when I went helmet-less or rode with a half helmet.
