Default Gas gauge...what the.....

So, I'm in the garage putting a good detail on my new to me 06 Road King. Polishing around the base of the gas gauge real good and the gauge pops up out of the tank. I know one is not supposed to twist on the gauge but how does this thing stay put? I pushed it snug down into the tank again but I'm guessing it must lock in someway. Waiting on my FSM so can anyone give me a hand?

TIA

I always wondered where it was. I thought it was some kind of sensor inside the tank. But I didn't know it could just pop out! Good Luck in getting it fixed.

I accidentally did the same thing on my '11 RKC. Just pushed it back in and haven't had a problem since. I wouldn't worry about it.

your fine, they will all pop up like that. Just try and avoid doing it with a soapy wet sponge.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if it had some 1/4 turn kind of thing to lock into position. I'll give it another push just to make sure!

don't be twisting around on it. There is stuff attached. Just push it back down in place. It's just held in with a rubber gasket.
