Glad they finally did something but I think the $25 fine with no points is a slap in the face.
Edited in: I should mention that the people pushing the law wanted $100 and 2 points. The excuse for the $25 was they didn't want to do too much to soon.

You're right freebird it's a joke considering the amount of crashes and lives lost due to people that think their physically able to text while driving.Another example of self entitlement people have these days.

Even in states with very significant fines it's a meaningless law....it's been shown to not affect texting abuse in vehicles. It's impossible to enforce. There aren't enough cops to pull over everybody fiddling around with something in their lap, stereo, whatever. Cops simply have too much to do to start a serious and sustained anti-texting campaign.
Don't get me wrong...I'm not against hefty fines for texting and cellphone use in a moving vehicle. The fines tend to get imposed after a serious accident when witnesses and cellphone records can corroborate in court. Don't expect a reduction in DWT (Driving While Texting) because of the potential of even large fines.

I find it highly hypocritical that people want beheading for drinking a single beer and then driving, yet a $25 fine for texting while driving when texting has been shown to be more of a hindrance to driving.

I think if the fine was made large enough, say $1000 or more, and several points, the cell phone use would slow down a bit.

So they will pull you over for texting huh ? What about all the newer vehicles that come equipped with screens on the dash ,,gps , sires radio , and screens that will play movies !

Maybe so, but cops tell me that despite the average cost of a first time DUI of over $7K (includes fines, attorney costs, and annual insurance premium high risk reclassification) they can write as many tickets as they have time to pull people over when the bars close. Nothing's changed.
