I know Helen is super crowded around October, but what about June and July, is it bumper to bumper around that time too? Just wondering, I'm planning on a bike trip there in July and wondering what to expect...

School's out, families on summer vacation in the mountains. Yep, it will be a busy place.

If there's traffic there are roads that run parallel with the main drag 1 block over.I run thru there too many times a year on the roads around there.Great summer riding.

I was there in late june of last year and there wasn't an overcrowding of people.
Go to pigeon forge or gatlinburg areas for that.

During the spring, summer, fall months(on weekends) you dont ride your bike through Helen you walk your bike due to the traffic. But I still like helen, its a nice place and is the center of some nice riding. Traffic is due to the fact helen is only a short drag of roadway. Lots of people crossing in crosswalks.

It was busy Saturday...first really nice day we have had in a while so the parking lot at the Bike Shops was completely full....probably 300 - 400 bikes in town, but it wasn't bad.

During the summer weekends are the worst. If you come in from Cleveland you can take ALT 75 and come into the town from the north which isn't as bad. If you come in on new 75 I have seen the traffic backed up 6 miles to get in the place on a weekend....not good on an air-cooled bike on a 80-90 degree day.

Come in during the week and it isn't nearly as bad as a weekend.
