I don't know what would fit on those bikes. I suppose there's a possibility an appropriate car tire doesn't exist for HD, though I'm inclined to think there must be something out there.

I'm trying to figure out what to put on my Super Glide. I've run CT's (on 3rd CT) on my Valkerie for about 70K now, and am very happy with them. We don't have bike inspections here. When I first approached a mechanic (a metric mechanic) about mounting them he was sceptical as well (but he did it without any hesitation), though he'd heard of the practice on the Valkeries and Goldwings, but his opinion has moderated since he's now had a number of people make the same change. Apparently they keep coming back alive, and happy with the CT.

You might check these out as a possibility for the new touring bikes. Lower profile but that shouldn't be a problem with the high 6th gear.
