Who uses a motorcycle radar detector?
Just wondering. Looking at an Escort Redline($499.95) to replace the HD Roadtech that fell off and went bouncing down the highway. I believe that's politely referred to as a P.O.S.! I have been running a Beltronics V965 mounted on a Slipstreamer handlebar mount on one bike since 2004(disconnects in 5 seconds) but that technology is getting kind of old. So what you use and how you mount it?

Wow, I've been using a Road Tech on my Road Glide for five years/60,000 miles and it never hinted at falling off. BUT, I am looking for another detector as I put a V Stream windshield on and it interferes. I am looking at the Escort 9500, unless you ride where there are LONG straightaways the 9500 seems to be a better detector. The GPS will eliminate the daily false alarms like door openers and it has a traffic cam database. The Redline is just a super long distance detector.

This is not what you asked but I also have an HD Road tech that ALMOST fell off. I found that the compression clip on the bottom had become weak. I put a small dab of silicone under the clip forcing it to fit tighter. This may be something to look at on other applications. I also have a GPS and I added the dab of silicone to it's fastener also.

The Road Tech fell off when i hit the mother of all potholes doing 70 MPH. I never saw it when it fell as i was trying to keep the bike under control but everyone behind me dodged it. I was going to use half of a Slipstreamer handlebar mount and fit it to the Road Glide Roadtech mount and make it quick detachable to work with my Clearview windshield. You can remove the slipstreamer in 5 seconds. The Roadtech worked with the Clearview but you could not have put a penny in between. The Escort Redline seems to be the best longer distance Ka band detector. I live in the south and we have long open stretches of 70 MPH interstate. It seems perfect for that. The Roadtech seemed to be on par with the Beltronics V 965 i had on the Superglide but they were both 2004 technology. Time for an upgrade.

Oh great now I have to figure out where the radar dish is on my bike too!?
Dog116929, just a quick question why silicone and not epoxy or something of equal strength? Silicone does stretch and tear. Not being a wisebutt just curious.

I have a dash mounted bracket for an FLHTC, the radar detector has a push button so the detector can be removed from the dash mount. The silicane allowes me to push the plastic button to release the detector but offers enough resistance so it does not fall off. So the reason for silicone and not epoxy, didnt want a permanent attachment, only resistance to the plastic spring loaded clip I had.

Funny, (not really) but my Roadtech flew like a bird today also,2nd one ,first one was stolen outside my shop (not a high crime area).I am unsure what to do now try and find another Roadtech or upgrade to something that won't fall off. I don't like having a mount on thefairing not being used or the holes if I remove it. I wonder if harley has upgraded the mounts on the newer GPS units as my Quest flew the coop last Summer also. I came up wth the silicone thing on the rest of my ride home today but it was too late then.
