Hp / torque
Do not know the answer but the cylinders, piston size and exhaust are the same between engines. Only difference is increase in stroke which should increase torque more then HP slightly. I would guess HP would increase slightly also. Maybe apx- 9% at most??? I have rode both and truly noticed little difference. However I drive easy seldom running over 3500RPM even in 5th gear. I am running a new 96 Night train exhaust on my 88. Just plugged the oxygen sensor ports.
GRABBED THIS OFF THE FORUM. Had the bike dynoed at Killer Creek HD in Roswell,GA. For comparison purposes, the Killer Creek dyno typically shows 61 hp and 67 ft.lbs torque on a bone stock 88 inch EFI motor. Note this is a 88TC and not a 88TCB
After checking all the HP/Torque on the Forum I agree red devil has a good average

average is that the 96's have 6-7 more Hp and 4-5 more Tq. in stock form..

I'm glad someone mentioned this, because I was wondering the same thing. Here is why:
My coworker rides an 88ci Road King Custom, I ride a 2008 96" Street Glide. We both ride pretty hard. I noticed earlier this week that when we both were taking off Wide open throttle that he always pulls away from me through the gears. He's running a SE Stage 1 with VH slipons. I'm running a SE Stage one with Rinehart slipons. I the only thing I'm wondering is if fly-by-wire on my 08 isn't actually going to wide open throttle even though it is twisted to the limit.

I have a Road King with an 88 twin cam and a Street Glide with a 96 twin cam, the Street glide is a little faster but like someone else said most of the components are the same. Every motor is different and can differ within a few horse

Where did you get those numbers from? Everything I'd read about a stock for stock comparison 88" to 96" is much closer than that, within 2-3hp and 3-4 tq.

HP
I was informed by a HD mechanic that the 88 pushes out 64 HP stock. The 96 because it is so leaned out from the factory only pushes 62 HP from the factory. Now after having a stage 1 complete on the 88 it will be anywhere from 68 to 70 HP an increase of 4 to 6 HP depending on the motor.
I am not sure what th 96 would push with a full stage 1.
I was told Torque is higher on the 96 stock than the 88 due to a decrease in the rear sprocket toothing & gear ratios.
Probably see a million different answers unless a true Mechanic could actually speak.

All I know is my stage one 88CI NightTrain walked away from my buddy's stage one 96CI Road King. Then again, I have also walked away from another buddies stage one 88CI Dyna which is supposed to have more power.
