Default 07 HD Question

Any idea why HD would come out with a 96 inch engine when they already got a 95 inch mill? I don't get it. Does the 96 inch mill differ other than it's bore from the 95 inch?

It doesn't make sense. Now they got to produce both 95 inch and 96 inch piston bores, rings, cyclinder liners and jugs. Heads probably got to be changed out unless they keep a smaller squish area.

Why spend all that money changin up their production specs just for a negligible change in bore??

The 110 inch I can understand. Maybe they had to change the jugs and liners for the 110 inch so the 96 inch makes sense with that configuration?? I'm guessing now.

If you understand it, it makes plenty of sense.

The 96" is a stroked 88" using the 103" crank.
THe 95" is a bored 88".

That way, the big bore kit is still the same, you just end up with more motor. You don't have to split the cases to get a 103", just the $600-$700 big bore kit. Get it?

If they just made the 95" the production motor, it would cost us a lot more to get the 103".

light bulb goes on!

Thanks Craig! Guess I was too lazy to look up the specs but now that makes sense and I like it. Just change out the jugs and pistons for the big 110 inch now without changing the crank. Makes perfect sense.

Ahhh haaaa, now I get it too. I didn't realize that. Looks like I'll be able to afford an upgrade with my '07 or '08. Man I can't wait! 110 c.i. Varoom, Varoom.

That sums it up pretty easily. Thanks for the lesson. I learned something today.

Glad I could clear it up. I was having trouble wording it right.

Now, I don't know how you get the 110" (like the CVO motor). I haven't researched it any but the basic big bore kit on the 96" should give you a 103".
