I was wondering if anyone had some tips on how to lighten the cost of service a bit. I seem to be buying oil and oil filters, along with the rest of the stuff every month or so. Is there anywhere that I can order a case of good oil filters, a case of good oil, etc. so that I can save a bit by buying in bulk? Also, I have heard about buying the drain plug O-rings at home depot and saving a bit there, but any other tips like that will be helpful as well. Thanks
Every month? Let's see, a service needed every 5,000 miles. Times 12. That's 60,000 miles a year. Man, I want your job. How can you do that?
Check with DR VTWIN. He can get you a good deal on the oil. Not sure about filters. And Home Depot is good for the O-rings and should save enough for a college education.
You might try an industrial supply house for the O rings. Get a box of 500 or 1,000 or so. Mcmaster Carr is about as good as any. They should be much cheaper than either a hardware store or big box do it yourself place.
I don't know what brand of oil you run but I recently bought about 2 years worth of Amsoil so I wouldn't have to be running it down either. There is an Amsoil sponser here on the forum. I get my oil filters from the local auto parts store. Check with them or online to see if you can buy them by the case.
auto zone/ advanced auto usually has Mobil1 Vtwin oil on sale every few months wait for a sale and stock up. But like a previous post has said how much do you ride? You can buy filters from lakeshore at 20% off when they have free shipping if your willing to wait for them to be shipped. As far as the O-rings lowes has them too, but how much are you really saving as 20 of em is all you need to put 100K on the bike. Just doing the service ( get a service manual ) will save you a bundle.
surdkyke and chicago have free shipping if you spend 150 and of course 20#off
This is what I did last year. Bought a full box of 12 and got some other friends to have me order some for them. 20% off, no ship, and no tax. Good deal

you could also back flush your filter and reuse it a few times.
Never heard of this. If you aren't kidding, please explain.
I reuse the orings numerous times before changing and have never had one fail. I reuse primary cover gasket numerous times. I only change them when I notice a leak. I change the oil at 2500 mile intervals, so only change the filter on every second oil change. I use the dead dyno oil rather than synthetic. Maintenance costs ain't too bad on my three bikes, but I only change oil in each about twice a year (maybe three times on the Ultra). (I don't get as many miles on them as some of you folks.)
