I was cruising down a 4 lane highway with a dude on a crotch rocket in front of me. What really got me was that he rode for at least a mile or 2 in the blind spot of the only other vehicle around us. Then we both turned off onto a 2 lane highway and the whole time he rode a maximum of 1 car length behind this truck. It's only a matter of time until he becomes another statistic. Not knocking those that ride sport bikes, because I see just as many if not more people on Harleys putting themselves in dangerous situations as well. My question is why? Do people just not know better or just never learn safer riding practices, or what? I don't get it.
He might have thought he was drafting off the truck saving gas.
Some areas offer tickets for what he was doing and explain why it's a bonehead move on his part.
I see that repeated day after day. It has to be Ignorance. A sane, experienced rider wouldn't be doing that right? Not necessarily because I see seasoned riders do the same thing. To much on their minds, being distracted with other priorities and just not paying attention are generally the thing people do that don't make any sense while in control of a motorcycle or cage. It doesn't make any sense that anyone would be texting on a cell phone either while driving either.
I say its ignorance. Even if the rider had a bad experience of almost getting hit because of being in a blind spot, I bet there are some riders that are that ignorant
It is largely ignorance but also riders with very high performance chassis (turning ability and brakes) can survive tighter situations.
For my own part: lazy and or tired on a long ride brings inattention, coming out of winter hibernation brings sloth, and long, boring roads with stupid, slow sped limits bring impatience.
Funny how people on this forum are so quick to flame cagers, but don't ever point out something that a biker might do that's stupid. Maybe other people might learn something from bad examples...but then again, maybe not.
