Just came across this thread as the main shaft bearing on my 2010 Street Glide with 26K is missing a few *****. Getting ready to attempt this fix myself and was wondering if any forum members that have done it would be willing to rent out the required specialty tools for a reasonable fee. I would be willing to pay a security deposit to cover the cost of replacing them. Just figured I would ask. Thanks

Appears this is a common problem in 2007-2008 vintage SE six speeds. Today if you order replacement bearings you will get a 3rd generation and updated bearing kit for the transmision. I had a hydraulic clutch issue wherin I was not getting minumum spec on the end of clutch push rod. (min .65) after bleeding, replacing hydraulic master and acutator piston kits figured out the play in the whole of my transmssion gear set was culprit. Took tranny apart and mainshaft bearings shot. mainshaft worn, filings in tranny fluid. Only after having a HD mechanic look at internal HD bullentins did we find out bearings are a issue. If you have this vintage tranny, with 20K miles or more and are having hydraulic clutch creeping issues, or hear whining noises with engine running and clutch plled in, or have a rear belt that you have had to adjust with very little travel left on ecentric adjustment, check the bearings.

Mine went out last month. I noticed a loud roar on the left side coming off the interstate. Took 2 weeks to get it back. I had 45'000 on a 2009. Cost $50. Love the extended warranty.

This is the only site (and Ive been to many for various vehicles I own) that others try and shout others down for problems that they are having. There is an element within the Harley clan that believe the motor company can do no wrong. Lock-step, non-critical thinking like that is not good.

While some of these people take two data points (their experience and one other friend) and declare that ALL Harley 6 spd transmissions are bad is not exactly the most statistically relevant approach

On the other hand, Isn't the purpose of a site like this to share this kind of info and determine the statistics that a company like Harley might not be sharing with us?

I have managed to get all new bearings from HD, exception #8967 mainshaft bearing, which is on back order. I have searched dealers from Toronto to Vancouver, Seattle to LA. No frickin #8967 mainshaft bearing. "huge back order". That alone speaks volumes. My bike is off warranty. this failure can happen from 15.000 miles to my bike 25.000 miles. Thankfully i can do RE/RE myself. whether u have your bike on warranty or not, please add yur name or any information to this thread. transmission failure on models 2007,2008 or 2009 6 speeds. my bike has been off the road now one month still waiting for #8967 part. bummmer.

2007 Ultra Classic, Main Shaft Bearing failure last summer at 28,000 miles. Was caught early, three ***** out of the cage rolling around inside but didn't damage anything else. That bearing is GARBAGE! My local indy wrench rebuilt the trans and it works better now than the day I got it with 565 miles.
