Neighbors have a young woman from Germany living with them. She is an engineer for Seimens out in Rancho Cordova. Wanted a bike and the neighbor (a Harley owner/operator) found her a crazy clean '03 1200 Custom the same gun-metal blue as my FXST. Like this:




Five K on the clock and four grand on the price tag. The owner has been ill for several years and the bike looks pretty much mint, crisp and cool. Has some hot parts and chrome.

Man does it sound good; Sportsters always had the sound. My first Harley was a '64 XLCH but I've not had a Sportster since, but at that price, I could really enjoy putting one in the garage for short hops and rides up in the hills.

 

If I could have my '78 XLCH back, I'd ride it all the time - just like I used to but without the bar hopping.

That bike is gorgeous. $4,000 is a steal too. I see a few sporties going for around that much occasionally. Every once in a while there might be one for $3,500. I'm only talking tin can sporties, not ironheads.

 

Yeah she's 5'10" smart and cute. She's never ridden before, took the safety course last weekend and I saw my buddy helping her learn how to ride last night. I hope she takes her time, she looked pretty shakey.

But man what a nice putt! At that price, talk about cheap thrills...

 

Damn, that photo makes me miss my '03 XLH1200. Never should have traded it.

 

I'm telling you Sportys are awesome, I have 2 LOL! I love most HD's, but for the price, power and looks you can't beat them. They sound killer with good pipes and easy to mod. hope she takes her time and does not hurt herself or the bike.
