HD Leather Jackets - "Made In...?
#11
My HD Highwayman I got in 1986 was made in Korea. No logos on it and very heavy leather. Built-in kidney belt.
My recent one is made in China. Logos all over it and much lighter and softer leather.
Both are well made but the heavier one would offer better protection from road rash.
My HD vest I also got in 1986 is made in the U.S.A. No logos but I've added a couple of patches.
Nice thing is I still fit in all of them.

One would be hard pressed to find clothing made in the good ol' USA. Went to Burlington Coat Factory and checked out around 15 different racks and none that I saw were made here. Sad but that's the way it is for now. You can either buy stuff that came from overseas or go naked for the most part. I would buy USA products and do when I can find them.

Moco gets all the clothing made in third world countries and charges "Made in the USA" prices for the stuff. I bought my first Harley to support North American, which is what I try to do with all my purchases, but it's getting tougher all the time.

There are still quite a few smaller companies making very good leather clothing in the good ole USofA, as well as the better known Langlitz and Schott. I used to include Vanson but just about all their stuff is now made in El Salvador.
The HD stuff may not be made here but all of it that I have is very good quality. I may be wrong but I think I read somewhere that Harley jackets through the 70s were made in the US. Probably from different contracted makers like Fox Creek does now.

I just had a mini fit in my local dealer the other day about this. (Not the sales girls fault I know but she was there to hear it). I went looking for a leather jacket from HD. The one I really wanted I found out was made in Indonesia (very nice quality I may add) The second jacket I liked was made in Mexico (also good quality) The only leather jacket there made in the good ol' US was horrible looking as well as terrible quality. All in the same price range I may add. I blew a gasket and started yelling at a buddy of mine who works there and the sales girl got some too about this. I later apologized but for cryin out loud...all I want to do is spend my American money on an American product. I left there empty handed
