102R vs. 103 and cams???

So here is my situation, I have a 08 Ultra Classic, 96 motor with 35K on the motor. Stage one, done the intake, exhaust, Power Commander III. Done all the mods I wanted, except a few chrome things here and there. I was thinking about going into the motor and doing the cams and putting a 103 kit in. I would like bigger, but to go 110, or larger I would have to split the cases and deal with all that.

Now I'm no master wrench turner, but I can take my time, read on line and I have the Bible for my scoot, so it would take a little extra time, but I know I could do it.

For example, the shop told me four hours to change out the front end for chrome. Took me 12 hours, taking my time and making sure everything was right the first time.

Now I have the money to do the engine mods to a 103 with gear cams, or use that money for a down payment on a 2010 Fat Bob, or take that down payment and put in a 120R motor into the Ultra.

I posse these questions to you, would you:

A. Due the 103 kit and cams, saving a little money?
B. Be done with the Ultra and get the Fat Bob and start over with a monthly payment?
C. Pull the 96 get the 102R?
D. How well do you think the 102 would hold up for a touring motor?
E. I know it’s a race motor, but will it have the reliability the 96 with a cam and 103 kit?
F. Since it is a race motor, would it need constant turning to keep running well?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for the feed back

At 35 K she should still a lot of miles left in her...
I am thinking of a 103 when it time for topend..like 80-100k

I added cams and they alone made a huge diff..
thinking If u did cams and heads U'll have close to or near what a 103 with cams would have

Also don't know why U'd want to do gear cams,, the new Hyd setup in the 96's have proven to be excellent.

just my $.02
