Will this hurt Harley sales?

I, of course, can't see Harley's financial statements, but I thought closing Buell was short sighted. With all of the discussion about an aging customer base, and Harley's recent bike models and marketing directed toward young riders, I would have thought that Buell bikes would have been good to keep in the company. Especially if Harley was going to ease up on the guy and let him build proper sportbikes.

I would like to see an American sportbike being produced, and I wish Erik and the new company success. I've always liked Buells and I will certainly consider the new bike if I'm in the market for something sportier.

HD really does need to not meddle too much, like at all. They're good at what they do, let Erik build a real sport bike.

 

I believe in the near future the moco will regret their decission to part ways with the line.

That's awesome! Good for Eric and the folks at Buell...talk about drive and determination? To keep pushing with the economy the way it is, that's true passion there...IMHO...

I wish 'em luck, but they are gonna have to offer more than they have in the past to sway the sportbike crowd. HD made their parting decision based on dollars. They simply didn't sell well. Heck, I was at Myrtle last week and noticed they had 3 or 4 unsold new ones stacked up on storage racks in an outdoor building.

 

If guys like Paul jr. can open a shop and put together bikes out of a catalog, then Buell now that it has less pressure from Harley to sell numbers should do fine. But I wouldn't want to be in charge of deciding how to build bikes that can compete on the track and build street bikes that are competitive with all the other established brands. Good luck to him.,,
