9K and time for another new rear tire thinking about the Metzler
Only 9k on the Heritage and its time for another new rear tire. They say its due to my riding habits No burnouts this time. I think its getting eaten up from dowshifting to decelerate[:-] I was thinking about trying the Metzler Marathon instead of the HD Dunlop. Anyone running the Metzler and if so how is it in comparison to the Dunlop?

From what others have posted (here and other forums), I doubt you'll see much, if any, increase in mileage between new tires with the Metzlers...[&:]

I agree with DMSC. I don't think that you will see an increase in tire life. I believe that the Metz is a softer compound than the Dunlop. It handles better and gives a better ride, but if you're burning up tires every 4500 miles you probably won't see any difference in mileage life.
Try putting snow chains on.

Metzlers are real soft. I ran dunlop d208's on my R1 and they lasted close to 6000 miles. Put a metzler on at 6k and bought a michelin at 8.5k I got half the life out of the metzler but it stuck to the road like superglue.

Tires are soft and HDs weight is hard on them, esp the rear.If you ride agressive that mileage isnt bad for a rear.Any tire you probably buy wont live much longer in your case. The frt should hold up better but if changing brands its a smart move to keep the same brand. Its a fine line between sticking to the road and mileage.

Go for the Metzler's. They might last as long, but I doubt it. But they will stick a lot abetter I'd imagine. That is what I plan on doing as my rear tire is almost toast. I'd rather stck better than get great mileage. Remember, the tire is the part of your bike that touches the ground.

The Metzeler 880's and Avons are very comparable in tire life, wear-ability and handling.
The Dunlops are a joke in the rain, hats off to you for using them. They slid around to much for me and I could never get used to that pucker factor. Try the Metz, you'll be pleasantly surprised even on dry pavement.
