Default Help on VIN Verification

I own a 1986 FLH with a nameplate on the tank identifying it as a Liberty Edition model. The VIN is 1HD1DJL23GY505553. It does not have any Liberty decals on the tank, fairing or tour pac. I have read the number in the 8th position of the VIN should be a "4" for a real Liberty bike. Any comments or information would be appreciated.

When you put a 4 in the eighth position, this is what you get...
Invalid check sum!
Although the digits are invalid, a VIN similar to the one you provided may belong to a motorcycle that was manufactured in the USA by the Harley-davidson corporation.

I've checked twice on the NADA and KBB sites, and there's no "chrome" model listed only the liberty. Just about every other model his there. They value they list is $7875 for one in good shape, but also state it will probably sell for less then that amount.,,
