Has anyone shipped their bike overseas and then traveled over to ride or for work?

This is on my Bucket-List - with the British Islands being #1 right now. I suppose renting a bike is a possibility, depending on the freight charges of shipping.

 

Haven't done it... why not just rent over there? We did that in Florence, Italy and had a great ride around the Chianti region.
