Enjoy the new ride. Sounds like a few people on here are a bit jealous of YOUR new ride.

Thanks for the well wishing, guys. The poopers remind me of the one or two kids in grade school that always acted like they smelled a fart when your "Show And Tell" was bigger/better.

Anyway...

DaddyKnuck:

That's a perceptive question.

The Deuce has been a very fun scoot for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the two solo road trips I took on it. (Both about 2800 miles.) It is peppy and acceptably agile (for a bike with a longer rake). It's "hot rod" looks are superb.

However, since buying-in on the Harley idea in '07 with the Deuce (I was strictly a dirt bike owner prior to the Deuce), over the past 1- 1 1/2 years I have discovered that a "hot rod" type bike is NOT where my, and our, enjoyment rewards were evolving toward. That is, biking to me now is much more than just a 150 mile jaunt on the perfect Saturday. Instead, it is the ability to tour.

We want the ability to pack up, and head out, not limited by the 200 mile "comfort level" of the harder suspension and smaller seating arrangement of such a bike. (In an effort to make the bike more amiable for the wife and longer distances, we wound up with the biggest Sun Downer seat for the Deuce we could get.)

Anyrate... we did have the opportunity to ride an Ultra for an entire day, courtesy of a friend. We put 350 miles on it that day. When we got off, the wife's comment was "I don't even feel like I've been on a motorcycle!". So, I'm confident she will not miss the Deuce at all.

It WILL take a bit of time for me to get used to the additional weight, and the loss of the "hot rod" feel. However, I'm very glad to be getting us a bike that CAN do the things we've begun talking about doing before we're too old. Trade offs, 'ya know?

We live in eastern OK. Over the coming years, we fully intend to do a few "must do" things on this bike:

1. A two weeker to Colorado and back. We love the San Juans. We want to experience them on a bike.

2. A two or three weeker to New England near the autumn time.

3. A trip to the Black Hills of SD. I've experienced them aboard a bike (one of the solo trips mentioned above), my wife hasn't. I want her to see what I saw and experience similar things that I experienced.

So, though there is a small amount of "bitter sweet" (as one reply mentioned) in giving up the Deuce. However, overall, I think the gains are going to far outweigh the few losses.

For sure: I'll find out!

BTW, our first "get acquainted" jaunt will be next Saturday right after we make the exchange: We're heading up the Pig Trail in Arkansas to eat lunch in Eureka Springs... about 350 miles by the time we get back to the house!

Congrats on the deal!!! Knowing that you will have a great time on the new scoot makes the trade even better. Sounds like you had a plan before you bought the Ultra. Good for you for doing your homework.

Your gonna love the ultra. Don't worry about the party poopers. Just smile & wave as you cruise by.

Congratulations man!! People can say what they like about the Ultra, but I have seen some that I would jump on in a heart beat at 17.

Forgot to add:

My Deuce now has 23,880 miles on it. (Had 3000 when purchased.) From what I've been reading on these forums, the chain tension rub blocks on the Twin Cam 88 are likely going to be due for replacement within another 10,000 miles or less. It's my understanding this is in the $500 to $600 range to replace, OR $1100 to $1200 to change over to gear drive. This factored in our decision to do this now instead of later.

Anyway... all that remains is gather up the Deuce extras and haul them up to the dealer... then get the Deuce and Title to the dealer SAFELY come Saturday morning!
