Jiffy stand won't stay down

Jiffy stand won't stay down
The jiffy stand on my '08 XL1200C won't stay down. It used to.
Now when I want to park the bike, I have to hold the jiffy stand down with my foot while leaning it over. (Probably a good habit anyway.)
The damn thing used to stay locked down/forward. Now it doesn't. Sometimes it used to get stuck down and I had to give it a heel-kick to get it back up--just a little stiff or in need of some lubrication, I always thought. Now it just pops back up without any delay.
Note: I haven't ridden it for, like, two months. Maybe keeping it stored on the stand like that for so long did something? I dunno..
Any ideas why?
Thanks

I have no idea why it wouldn't stay down. Usually the spring gets weak or broke and the jiffy stand will not stay up. I would definitely have that bike on a lift while I figured that out. I can't believe you didn't fix it before or replaced it. I hate those springs. They are tough to get on and off without a tool made for them.

is upright. It's also made to go past center when you push it
down and forward in order to allow you time to lean it over to
engage the lock. If the mechanism has some interference such
as mud or tar or anything that's keeping it from going forward
enough to go over center, it'll spring back. If you can't figure
it out it may be best to see the dealer.

Appreciate your responses guys.
My bike's been in one place (WA) and I've been flying back to MT to finish my old job, so I haven't spent a lot of time with it lately.
I was keeping it at the dealer cuz it needed some major clutch repair, too.
Yesterday I picked it up and noticed this new jiffy stand issue. I'm kind of afraid that it will just fold up and fall over when parked, especially with a slight incline going the wrong way.
I don't have a lift, but I'll poke around down there, and definitely take it to the dealer.
This one's a puzzler for me, too. It used to stay down; now it doesn't. Pretty weird.
