Default Universal symbol of distress for Bikers

I was reading somewhere that the universal sign of distress for Bikers is to place your helmet directly in front of your front wheel, indicating they need help. Anyone ever hear of this, I mean it sounds like a good idea? I can't count the times I've passed riders on the side of the ride and stoped to ask if all is well, it would be a relief if there was a symbol that someone actually needed help...know what I mean?

Although I've never seen it, this is what I've heard is the universal sign.

I've never heard of such a thing.
I'm apt to put the helmet there if I access the saddlebag.

I do the same and it works good. I normally get a quick thumbs up. I can only remember a few times that I got a thumbs down. On one of those I had the guy back on the road in minutes.

I always thought it was a helmet on the ground. Never heard it more specific than that.
