1993 FLHS Electra Glide Sport Fairing

Hi all,

First off, I wasn't quite sure which section to post this in. It's not really paint/powdercoat and it's not really tech either, so I thought general would be best.

I have a 1993 FLHS. I've been researching like crazy trying to figure out how to fit a batwing outer fairing on. The bike has the "bread box" style dash above the triple tree and I don't care to change that so I'm not looking for an inner fairing. I know that Harley made the outer fairing for it, pt.# 58198-76A which I'll be more than happy to order, the only problem is no one at Harley or my favorite local cycle shop can tell me what else I will need to make it work. I understand the bike is almost 20 years old but there's GOT to be someone who can help me out considering that Harley specifically made this part.

And I know for certain it can be done because I've seen pictures online of the same year and model with the fairing.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Admins, if this is in the wrong forum, I apologize and please move to the correct forum.

Thanks.

You will need the fairing, a left & right bracket and a windshield. The one on my '85 had 3 positions for the windshield height.

1984 -1985 FLHTC had the faring that you are looking for. The dealer's parts manual will have all of the part numbers you need. That said, they may be obsolete and unavailable from Harley. They may be swap meet / Ebay items.

Whats screwy is that Harley can get the fairing for me, just not the brackets so then i'll be on a wild goose chase for the brackets. Guess i might just stick with the windshield. I actually got the part list from Harley with an exploded view but its in combination with the FLHT thathas an inner fairing which I cant use. Maybe the parts are just too obsolete to make this happen.

Check Jireh or Ted's. They may have the brackets and windshield.

Vegasjones,
I have the exact same bike and want to put a batwing fairing on. Did you find a way ? ? ?

You remove the whole speedo/tach assemply and that slides into the fairing. You then have to remove the metal "bucket". Too bad this wasn't last year, I gave away a fairing with all of the brackets and gauges from an '86. Check ebay.

What you need to find is a parts catalog for 1993 or a few years' earlier. I may have one up in the attic, but too late to look for it tonight.

It will have the part numbers you need.

It's possible (perhaps just remotely) that somewhere a Harley dealer might still have the brackets, tucked away as "new old stock".

Wasn't the fairing kit for the FLHS just an "outer fairing" kit -- that is, just the "shell" that fit over the front of the bike, with no "innards"? And no need to move the speedometer/tach pod?

Mark, the problem is the inner is not available. Just as well because as Fshrmn mentioned, FLHS may have come with an outer only & inner probably came on the FLHT, & I have no prob with just the shell. Basically, if I get an outer that will clear the instruments/bucket (58198-86 I hope) I'm OK. Now, if I can determine what bkts I need, I'll be even more OK ....... that is until I find that they're obsolete too ......
Who'd a thunk 93 would be obsolete !
Thanks for chiming in and I'm all ears if anyone else has ideas.
