Just got my 2012 a few days ago and noticed the clutch cable on my side of the handle bar. I think it should be on the outside (front) of the bar.
Where is your cable?

09 Heritage here... the clutch cable is on the outside of the bars as it exits the clutch lever but inside of the bars as it descends past the risers.

 

As long as it is not pinched when you turn the bars full lock both directions,
and has no sharp bends, dosen't hang out, its fine. My 03 is routed like yours and has performed very well.
