This has to be a craigslists scam

if not and you live near this place and can go see the bike someone would be wise to buy but I doubt it is legit. 1st is the link to the bike that I saw here in the local craigslist in Jacksonville Florida.

http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/mcy/2613014384.html

My 1st email to the seller

Can u send me some pictures of the bike? Is the asking price$4950? How many miles on the bike?
thanks

Response from seller;

Hi,
I am selling this bike because my platoon has been sent back to Afghanistan and don't want it get old in my backyard. The price is low because I need to sell it before 29th of September. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident..I do have the title , clear, under my name.The bike have 13,058 miles, year 2006 It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $4950. The bike is in Great Falls, MT, in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back.
Thanks

My response;

If the bike was in Jacksonville I would be very interested if its in the condition u say its in but since it isn't I have no way to determine that.

Thanks for the reply

Seller;

As I've told you , I am in Great Falls, MT in a military base getting ready for Afghanistan. I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The shipping wont be a problem and I will do it at no cost to you because it will be made by the army. You will receive the bike along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, full service records and more. Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal using an authorized third party like eBay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program .The payment will be handled by eBay and you will benefit of the 5 day inspection time period and the option to accept or reject the bike on my expense. If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address.
I will forward your info and they will notify you about our deal
Hope to hear from you soon

My response;

Thanks but I can not purchase something without being able to see and touch it first.

Ther was no return email after that which I expected. I am not even in the market but like to see what is out there and even though it would be pushing the budget if that bike was here local and that was the price the OL' lady would have herself a new ride:icon_dance-cpatch:

Scam!!!

ChromeJunkie 09-23-2011 11:16 PM

It is listed in Jax Fl, but the bike and owner is in Montana? Something smells fishy to me.

jo_mama 09-23-2011 11:17 PM

military base in great falls, mt? where? http://www.malmstrom.af.mil/visitora...nformation.asp

HOG_0308 09-23-2011 11:19 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOO, I am not going to do it. There is no way I would buy and not be able to see it in person like I said in a response to the seller. I am not:icon_verzsilly:

Now in saying I would purchase a bike without seeing it in person if it looked legit but this sure as heck isn't legit

not_so_newb 09-23-2011 11:24 PM

first thing on this list http://www.dasautoshippers.com/fraud...on-center.html
anything selling for just under $5k is suspicious . dunno about in the US but up here the penalty for fraud over 5k is more severe than under 5k

SanJuanRon 09-23-2011 11:24 PM

It's a SCAM! I went thru exactly the same thing helping sell a friend's RV. A definite SCAM! SJ Ron

TennesseeMustangPerf 09-24-2011 12:25 AM

There was a thread a while back with that same exact bike on it. Scam for sure. Flag it and report.

NorCalFBLO 09-24-2011 12:49 AM

love his English or lack of it....Scam for sure.

TennesseeMustangPerf 09-24-2011 01:32 AM

Simple callout. Email him back and tell him that you have a friend in the Great Falls area who is willing to check the bike out for you. He said it was in his back yard, so even if he is out of town you can come by and take a look, even if you cannot test ride. If he replies yes, then maybe it is legit. If he does not reply, or comes up with an excuse, then definite scam. But like I said before, I had seen this same exact pic on another scam thread and was proven to be a fraud. I would ask him what company he is with, too.

100% scam.

This guy said he's in the Army? The only military base in Montana is Malmstrom Air Force Base. There aren't any Army units there that I know of.

Also, he says that the Army will ship the bike for him…bullshit. The military will only ship a vehicle in conjunction with a PCS (Permanent Change of Station) move. A deployment to Afghanistan is just that…not a PCS move.

I wouldn't give it another moment's thought.

dickey 09-24-2011 03:32 AM

I have seen that ad so many times with different bikes & similar wordings--guys always being deployed, and the bike is always crated & in some terminal waiting to be shipped out. I usually tell 'em I'm local & want to go see the bike,and that's the end of the emails after that!

pretz 09-24-2011 03:42 AM

straight up scam.

oppirs 09-24-2011 03:57 AM

go ahaed and play with this w/scammer. get info on fake bank acct. or checks. Never cash a bogas check.

White Ice 09-24-2011 06:14 AM

This is the first sign of a scam as well:

Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal using an authorized third party like eBay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program .The payment will be handled by eBay and you will benefit of the 5 day inspection time period and the option to accept or reject the bike on my expense.

CSP067 09-24-2011 06:22 AM

Exactly. You can't use ebay unless you sell through ebay. Sure sign of a scam, along with the others above. There is no army at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls. And where have you EVER seen anyone say, "I'll take care of the shipping"?

Nice try, but sadly someone will fall for it. It just won't be anyone here. :)

Broncs 09-24-2011 08:57 AM

I am in NO way saying this isn't a scam!!!

There is Army reserve and NG units from MT going to Afganistan all the time. The guys I know in the Army reserve do go to Great Falls all the time.

Ah, good point. I actually lived at Malmstrom once upon a time, but had forgotten about NG and Reserve units.

I sorry but I spended your Moneygram to buy the bike from the gentlemans on chitlist. So would you bee so kind as to please resent the Moneygram so I can forward it to the proper person via the Army special training unit stationed in B.F. Egypt?
