:0 Ah, damn dude that sucks!!! I really feel your pain. I'll tell you what I'll do for you. I'll take the bike and you can go buy another one that isn't is such lousy shape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First off, I want to say that I'm sorry but people are laughing at your pitted assed chrome bike. Seriously even fat girls with no teeth are laughing their asses off just thinking about it. Don't worry about a phycologist, spend your money on chrome. It's the only way you'll get them to stop. But do not tell them how much you spent on chrome or they will laugh about that.
i was searching for re chroming my 2009 RK Classics heat shields. It had bad wear on two pieces when i bought it, and i screwed it up more by using too rough of a steel wool. Anyways been checking everywhere for replacement heat shields, and the only ones i could find were black, in Harley's parts catalog. I am planning on putting power duals on later but can't squeeze the dinero right now. So i checked in with our town's most popular electroplating shop that deals alot with big rigs and lowriders. they told me they could completely redo the chrome for about 70 bucks.(a little over 2 feet). Was looking for some posts where someone has done this, but since i didn't find any, i'm going to go for it. Anyone with any experiences with this, let me know

Oh yea, and I've been advised (more than once in fact) on where I can find "sympathy" in the dictionary!
I have found that the cost of replacement vs rechrome are about the same. There are other coniderations to consider..........1. some replacement parts are not the same, do to revisions. 2. not all chrome shops are the same. Some only nickel/chrome.........not as satisfying and 3. shipping costs must also be considered. One last thought, if the part is engraved, replating my reduce the visability of the engraving somewhat.
Ogden Chrome located in Ogden Utah uses trilpe chrome (copper, nickel, chrome), does "show quality" plating , has free shipping and reasonable costs. They can be found on the web. The draw back is, they are somewhat slow on the turnaround.
Just a note, I have no connection with Ogden Chrome other than been a customer.
If it were me I would just replace the parts. I've restored several old Corvettes and found that I had to re-chrome many parts as I just couldn't find a decent replacement. Re-chroming is expensive if done right. You would be ahead just replacing what needs done.
These guys are just giving you crap. I happen to completely understand what you are saying as I like my stuff to look nice. A lot of folks here could care less how their stuff looks and that is OK too.
replace it all, put it up on a bike lift, build a glass case around it, and never ride it again..

I've put a new belt guard on within a few rides it was scratched. as long as you ride it and it's not a trailer queen. It will show signs of wear.

I would say leave it, but if you are like me then replace it. If the bike is not going to be a show bike then it might not be worth the $1,000 to replace the parts.
