Big Bear Choppers his gone

Another one bites the dust....THIS ECONOMY SUCKS!!! http://www.cyrilhuzeblog.com/2011/11...nd-operations/
Seems like the only one left building custom Choppers is Saxon and I wonder how long they will last in this economy????

You also have to factor in the trend... choppers are "last year's thing" now. I love them, but the trend now is turning to vintage style. Still, the economy does indeed suck, and it is a shame to see BB go under. :+(

Before you get all dewey eye'd if you read the article it's alleged that deposits were still being taken for bike builds even knowing that the shit had hit the fan and moved stock to another area ..... And it was bad business (it went on for to long ) and greed that contributed as did other factors so it wasn't all down to the economy .... MAYBE you should to feel sorry for the bikers that have given their money and NOT the company knowingly taking it .....

I think that the "Choppa thing" was a thing/fad..
Originally it was a 1% thing, then it got commercialized in the early 90's w/Big Dog, Titan,JJ and a few others and all that bad mo BS that went with it, but it has died out. Cool bikes, yeah but practical, not really. It is what it is. Maybe you should buy one, you could probably get a good deal on one now..

I see quite a few late model stretched out choppers on craigslist around here priced at about 1/3 the amount when new.

When Honda started making Choppers, the Fury, the writing was on the wall. The fad was over. They should have seen it and changed thier product mix, but they didn't and are now a footnote in manufacturer history.

i bought one of the first bare bones kits that Kevin sold from his business partner in Florida. frame, motor, trans, final and primary drive were top notch components. hand controls, foot controls, seat, sheet metal, etc. were lower grade stuff, but for 10K it was a steal in my book, plus the average guy with mechanical skills could put it together and ride it. outstanding idea. i just think they grew very quickly and offered too many different bikes at one time. too many company's get too big for their britches and go into a nose dive. my .02 cents

Its seems like too many builders lack the ability to adapt to changing markets.... there is always something different to build ... likes and dislikes change... HD should take heed!

Pay attention to the market... keep your core business going but be able to adapt... keeps jobs and makes for a better overall motorcycle market. More choices means more $$$ to be had.

where's all their stuff going ?
swap meet next month?
they had a lot of stuff up there.
I grew up on that mountain only an hour and a half away from me now.
wonder what they are going to do with that building.
really nice place for the mountains.
illusion choppers is hanging on here in orange county.

Was up there about 3 months back, stopped in just for chits and giggles. Talking with one of the employees they were down to making 8 bikes a month he said, all of which were headed overseas to the distributors there.

Hard to say. Choppers have been last years "fad" since the Easy Rider era. Limited market to say the least. Look at OCC the filed bankruptcy not long ago.
