Painting the tins
For all you long time riders, how difficult is it to get the tins off of a RK and about what price is fair for painting them?
I would like to have mine repainted eventually a vivid black with cream or silver colored ovals on the side of the tank and fenders with maroon pin stripping. I want to do this because the on my 04 the HD logo is a stupid sticker with clear coat over it and I don't like it. I want to put one of the nostaglic medallions on the tank.

RE: Painting the tins
I recently took my tank off my 07 EG standard. Comes off in about 10 minutes minus draining the tank. (that seems to be the hardest part) Front fender is simple to get off and the back does not look too difficult to do. On the back fender it may come off easier with the tire removed but you could use a jack and remove the shocks to lower the tire as much as possible to access the fender bolts. I did this trick when I took out the battery bolt tray in the fender.
As far as price???? My tank was quoted at 350 for a solid black color. I traded labor for the paint and labor so I don't know what a decent price is. I just wanted a solid black tank without the HD decal and stripe that does not match anything on the bike.
