Default Flat tire out on the road.....what to do?

I've never had a flat while out touring so I'm not sure what to do when it does happen. I'm a HOG member so I would probably contact them about getting my bike to the nearest Harley Dealer but I'd like to hear what experience other folks have had in solving a flat while away from home.

Had a rear go a couple of weeks ago about a mile from the house. Rode it home and put on a new one. Pretty squishy ride. Would not do this if it had been much farther or if the tire had come off the rim. Had to ride as slow as I could in second and could barely keep it going straight.

Often wondered what you guys in the States do if you break down generally in the middle of nowhere, Death Valley for instance ?

I have tubes, so cross my fingers I'm not in the middle of nowhere when one goes. I would call my Hog number. Also thinking about getting a second roadside assistance due to some not so good experiences with the Hog system.

Coming home from Rolling Thunder bunch of years ago. 30 miles from home on I-84 going 75 mph in the left lane. Heavy traffic. Back end became squirely all of a sudden. I realized waht was happeniing. The first instinct was to hit the brakes. Then the mind kicked in and said "don't do that". Let off on the gas and slowed down looking for a shoulder on the left. Called HOG and got a wrecker coming. Being Memorial Day no HD dealers were open, so towed to my house $25 extra. No problem.

Headed toward Millwalkee for the HD 100th party. Went the northern route. About 75 miles west of Sudbury, Ontario felt the back end get squirely. Now I knew the problem and fortunately only going 45 mph. Called HOG, got a wrecker from Sudbury. Hauled me back to Sudbury HD. They treated me great. Decided I needed a cast wheel so I could plug the flat. $1,000 and 8 hrs and I was back on the road to Millwalkee.

I've not had a front flat, don't look forward to it.
