Default GPS mounts....anyone use suction cup on windshields?

Ok, long story short.....I'm taking a short roadtrip this weekend to an area I'm not too familiar with and will probably need my trusty GPS. The weather is supposed to be awesome.....mid 70's and sunny....so why not take the bike I figure. I haven't gotten a handlebar mount for my GPS yet so I'm going to have to resort to the ole suction cup on the windshield mount. Anybody else use this? If this doesn't work, does anybody have any other improvised mounting system? I have the normal HD quick detach windshield on my FXST.....so I have plenty of windshield area.

i did this for years on my fatboy. I used a small wire as a safety catch to tie the GPS should the suction cup fail, never did. I use my smart phone and an ear bud now.

Default GPS Mount

For what it's worth...I wouldn't trust the suction cup on a bike windshield. I have a ram car mount for my gps with a suction cup and sometimes it just lets go for no reason. Think about how much more vibration there is on a bike and especially a bike windshield. If you use it on your windshield, and don't have it plugged in to a power outlet, if the cup gives up...you can say bye-bye to the gps. Unless you are quick enough to grab it or if you even see it....
BTW I have a ram bicycle mount for my GPS on the bike handlebars and I'm kind of paranoid about it letting go also.

Default FREE is good!

If you have EZ PASS go on line and request some extra hook and loop fasteners that they supply with their window mount passes. THEY ARE FREE AND WORK GREAT! No way is the EZ Pass, GPS or whatever you are going to attach ever fall off!!

I just suction mount mine to the speedo. Never have had it to come loose.

If you can, wrap the power cord around bars or something to act as a safety if the suction lets loose. Did this on a Garmin and it saved the GPS when it came loose. The Garmin's power cord has a tight fit.

I most definitely wouldn't trust the suction cup. I've had my GPS come loose off my car windshield where it was suction-cupped on. I wouldn't trust the power cord to hold it, either. You need to find some way to have a secure backup when (not if) the suction cup lets loose. And make sure it's short enough so that the GPS doesn't hit your gas tank when it comes loose.

I mount mine with a suction cup on the speedo glass(FLAT). I also epoxyed a lanyard on the GPS & hook it to the bars for safety.

Damn...I never thought about the phone/ear bud.

I did get out for a quick cruise this afternoon and suctioned the GPS to the speedometer like buttmonkey and oc1014 suggested and it worked great.
