Spray the oven cleaner on a rag and then wipe to avoid hitting your paint with the oven cleaner. Try to scrape as much off while the pipe is hot also.

Try some oven cleaner and scrub it with a piece of aluminum foil. It will come right off.

I had a stray plastic grocery bag hit my pipes while I was cruising down the freeway, coming home from work. Needless to say, that by the time I got home is was baked on HARD, and didn't budge- hot bikes or not.

I let the pipes get stone cold, and then dissolved the baked-on, burnt-on, plastic bag remnants with acetone based, nail polish remover.

I used a soft rag and just kept on soaking the burnt plastic bag and it gradually dissolved- no trace of it left behind-no stain- no scratches- no scuffs- as if it never happened.

I had the exact same issue with my bike, so I got the heel guard and wanted to install it today but first I had to get the chrome clean. I tried a few things with little success, but finally found what worked out to be a great idea. I got a 2X2 piece of wood, long enough for me to hold and not touch the hot pipes and wrapped it with a pure cotton old clean rag. I then took my burnsamatic torch to heat a small area of the plastic on the pipes, them I pushed that rag on with the wood and rubbed. After it would cool off, I'd start with a clean area of the rag and repeat. It all came off in about 15 mins. of rubbing. Not a mark on the chrome when I was done. Hopefully the heel guard will prevent any further mishaps in the future. Sometimes one just has to try things until you stumble on a solution. This one worked great.

This has been posted at least 27 times before. Ignore all the other posts on this thread, especially those using nasty oven cleaner. The easiest and cleanest way is WD40 with 0000 Steel Wool. I never even tried it with hot pipes, as even when cold this takes everything off. Soak the 0000 Steel Wool in WD40 and rub. Voila!!! You have nice clean shiny chrome. Try it...and you'll love it.

Ps...make sure it is 0000 steel wool. Anything coarser will dull and abrade the chrome. Where as 0000 will clean and polish.

Close this thread now. There are no better solutions.
