Harley Davidson Engines
#22
I may have missed it, but was the V-Rod mentioned? The only water cooled bike designed with the help of Porche, and made by Harley that I know of. It's been 10 years now.,,

it would be difficult but interesting to mention all the engines Harley-Davidson has put into production all those years (what about the very early 350cc single cylinders unit or the post WW2 "K's"?).
Each engine/bike H-D has produced is interesting, being each time an evolution of what happened before, or as a reaction to the brit bikes which were "better" in some ways (the already mentioned "K" and its aftermath the XL).
I love to read/learn about history, whatever history, and the H-D one is worth it.
This could become a wide subject, indeed
PS: I've read somewhere that the Indian side valves engines were easier to put apart than the contemporary H-D engines?

Sporty models began their lineage in 1952 with the introduction of the 45 cu in K model. In 1954 displacement was increased to 55 cu in (KH model). 1957 was the introduction of the Sportster in the 55 cu in OHV design, and in 1967 they first offered the e-start to the bike.

Right, but apart from the Flathead, Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead, Evolution, Revolution, Twin Cam, J-series, K-series, XL, hydraulic lifters, aluminium heads, improved cooling, more power, better reliability, electric start and design help from AMF, Kawasaki and Porsche... what have the Romans ever done for us?!
