gauge moisture

I have been told that it is a common problem for speedo & tach gauges to sometimes fog up. When it dries up, it sometimes leaves faint dried moisture marks on the inside of the gauges. It is not that noticeable. It just depends on the way you look at it & the light. Sitting on it, you can't see it. I have been told by 3 different dealers that it is common & Harley does not consider it a problem as long as you can't see it while you are riding. Anyone have any comments on this?

That is correct. Harley does not see it as a problem. I don't get moisture in my speedo or tach but the other little gauges fog up when they predict rain[:@]. My bike is 6 years old and it hasn't hurt anything at all.

well that means theremay bea vapor leak somewhere. Over a period of time it could corrode the gauges and make them less accurate, or not work at all. You can try and seal them up some by checking the feeds into the gauges, if not, then they may need to be replaced. But the ones over the heat of the motor with the temperature change between hot and cold, may be "normal", but instuments with moisture in them for awhile tend to not work so good. But thats just what I think, just my .02 worth.

My fuel gauge filled with water this year while ridin in the rain on the way to Sturgis. Caused the gauge to die. My dealer warratied it when I got home. No other problems!

Mine get fogged up as well....sun dries them out after washing..nothing to worry about. If it was from the Fuel than you have an issue...but that isn't the common problem

Mine do it... Dealer says it is normal.

I have never seen the fog in my speedo but I can see the water marks on the inside of the gauge.

My 07 Sporty had this condition (still does). Dealer said it's functional and cosmetic. I'm living with it. One of those things you can get over, especially on a real riding bike. If this were a museum show piece...different story. :D

My fuel gauge fogged up during a bike wash about a year ago and never dried up completely but I can read the gauge. Dealer said not covered under warranty unless you cant read it. I love my Harley and have had no problems other than that in 25,000. But why the hell can't they put SEALED gauges on their bikes....makes no sense....
