96 or 88 Most reliable

Just wanted to get some opinion from you guys who seem to know alot more about the v twins that I do. Will the new 96 with its 700 new parts be a better motor ordoes the fact that it is a stroker make it less reliable. 700 parts, I did not know the motor had 700 parts.

I read that evo's are more reliable than twins, as for stroker, think shorter rods, work harder : - )

I don't think the 96" has been out long enough to determine its reliability.[sm=biker.gif]

Don't know how in the world anyone would know just yet. The 96 has only been out a half a year.

I was just reading in a bike mag that had an article on the top 5 used Harleys that the 88 is what he condsidered an overbuilt motor and they have been extremely reliable. He stated that he's seen several with over 50,000 miles that were in great condition. Take that for what it's worth to you. The 96 is to new to make a determination yet. My opinion is if people keep lugging them in 6th gear on the surface streets your going to see a lot of motors having to be repaired.

Well let's see. 88 TC has been around for 7 years now, tried and true. Had some problems in 1999, and I think a few minor ones in 2000, but pretty rock solid since. The 96 TC has been around a whopping 6 months. That should be a no-brainer at this point.

That's not to say the 96 isn't going to be as - if not more - reliable, but it's still too new to determine what kinks (if any), and getting them fixed.

I've had my Road King Classic for 6 months now and it is approaching 10,000 miles, so it should be good for at least 2 1/2 years at this rate!
