Critter Strikes

Last summer I was out for a nice afternoon ride around the lake, came around a corner and there at the edge of the road sits a mountain lion - as I approached it looked like the cat would stay put, as I moved left to pass in the opposite lane she changes her mind and goes the same direction as I was, tapped the brakes and swerved right passing close enough that my front wheel hit her tail.

Dog, bird, raccoon, armadillo. The dog ran into the front wheel and was flipped head over heels; I didn't even feel it. Didn't seem to hurt the dog! Coon knocked my foot off the the left peg, don't know what it did to him, he disappeared. Didn't feel the bird, bounced off my chest at about 60, just scared me. The armadillo... you do not ever want to hit one of these, like hitting a parking lot concrete divider. Front end flies up, and then slams down as the back end launches and you're trying not to take a dive over the handlebars. I probably got it down to 25-30 before the hit, 60-70 would probably take out your wheel. Was on a smaller bike on that one, about 350 lbs; over 500 lbs with me on it; in spite of the violence, just went straight, never tried to tip. The armadillo ran away; I'd be amazed if it lived long after that.

Last weekend, hit a small dog with my brake lever and jammed it up. About took the head off the poor pooch.
Then about 2/3 way home, had a carabao (water buffalo) wander into the road as I was taking a right sweeper. Those horns came pretty close to my head and about scared the **** out of me. Riding in the Philippines is an adventure at times...

Hit a couple of birds, Back in the early 80's I was riding my RM250 down a trail and hit six or seven ground squirrels and that big ole knobby tire in the back would send them little things flying.

A rabbit and a chihuahua, i felt bad for the rabbit.
Scariest was out near Broken Hill in Australia. Was near dusk and a bloody Kangaroo leapt out of nowhere from my left side. I swear i could've sniffed it's **** as it sailed over me between my head and the handlebars.
I bought a lottery ticket and a new pair of undies when i got into town.

Nailed a big ol raccoon coming home from JPcycles shindig a couple weeks ago. It just came out of no-where... I had coon jerky hanging under my bike... talk about a bloody speedbump.
other than that...I've taken out a few birds over the years.

Out riding with my daughter one day we dodged a confused chicken. Daughter asked me, "why did the chicken cross the road?". I replied, "to screw with me!". Luckily we missed it.
Haven't hit anything on a bike since I was a teenager. Have had a few bugs bounce off the windshield that were big enough to hear the *thunk* while doing 70 mph down the highway though.

I have hit 3 or 4 birds, a large shepard size dog but the best (or worst) was a little (150to 200lb) bear. Did $8500 worth of damage to my 06 Ultra. i broke a couple of ribs and the wife only sprained her ankle.
