Man who shot motorcyclist 'just wanted to shoot someone'
ATHENS, Alabama -- A Tennessee man who shot a motorcyclist on U.S. 72 Monday afternoon was mad at his father and "just wanted to shoot someone," Athens police said.
Noah Andrew McGlawn of Whiteville, Tenn., turned himself in to police Monday afternoon, police said.
The motorcyclist, Brandon Matlock, called police about 2 p.m. and told them he was riding westbound on U.S. 72 East when someone in a green SUV also traveling west pointed a pistol at him and then took several shots at him, hitting him in the back and the arm, police said.
Matlock was flown to to Huntsville Hospital by MedFlight, where he was in fair condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
McGlawn called police from a Chevron station on Alabama 67 in Decatur and told police he had shot someone. Decatur police picked up McGlawn and arrested him.
"McGlawn told us he was mad at his father and just wanted to shoot someone," Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said in a news release.
"He said he had been driving around all day and when the motorcycle passed him he pulled his 22 caliber pistol out and shot the man," Johnson said. "
McGlawn told police he didn't know Matlock and had never seen him before.
"McGlawn said he drove around for a while and got to thinking about what he had done and decided to turn himself," Johnson said.

A more armored Kevlar riding jacket would be a good choice.
