Default Is This Wrench Crazy?

The wrenchat an OKC dealership told me last week that you don't need a Stage I download, PCIII, SERT etc. when you do a Stage I mod on a '07 touring model. Is this guy clueless or does he know something that I don't know?

Don't know if he is or not, would have to talk to him and ask some pointed questions, like Why don't I need to change the program when I add more air to the mixture. I'd ask him that if I put the Screaming eagle air cleaner on the bike and then put it on the dyno would I have a 13.7 to 1 air fuel ratio, and if his answer was no, or I don't know I'd know the answer to your question.

I've heard that the 02 sensors on the '07 bikes can compensate for a stage I (AC & pipes) but if you add anything else (cams, big bore, headwork, etc.) you'll need a richer fuel mix than the stock 02 setup can provide.

I'm looking forward to the answer to this question. It could save us a bunch of money if it is true. I'm sure one of the techs will be able to answer it fairly quickly.

According to the 2007 parts catalog the Stage 1 fits all touring bike 2002 and up, and it plainly states that a recalibraton is required.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bill

I've heard the same thing from the local HD wrench too. Just ain't
got the ***** to try. I'm sure if I burn it up, that guy would
deny saying anything.

Yeah... I would tell them I want something in writing before moving forward with that kinda thing.

Look at it this way... you may save some cash now bypassing a new computer but I think the majority of people around here have done the Stage 1 and upgraded their computers and have had very good success.

So... maybe the new download/computer is not NEEDED but it probably is highly recommended.

I know my '06 ran HOT before the new computer and the new air cleaner. So I am happy I changed the 'puter on mine.

As far as I know, all that you can add without some kind of fuel management is pipes.

Why would you risk it? I mean, you know the way most people do it is with the SERT or PCIII, and have had no issues. I say go with the flow, and do a down load at the very minimum.I going to do the SERT myself, I want my bike to run the best it can. Not a time to start getting cheap.
