The chrome side panels are aftermarket. They came from the factory painted to match the sheetmetal.

In know this thread is old, but I have this bike. Bought it new in 84 for 8,864.75, when I married my wife. We have been married 30 years this month. I have a letter from HD stating they only made 800. If you need pics or data, let me know.

Actually, there was an FXRSDG, it had a longer front end. Between the FXRDG and the FXRSDG, there were about 853 made, combined.
