Milwaukee, WI -
Harley-Davidson expands NHRA Drag Racing Series classes

MILWAUKEE(February 18, 2013)- Harley-Davidson Motor Company is pleased to announce that it has worked with NHRA to include the popular nitromethane-burning Pro Dragster class in the newly formed NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series.

Pro Dragster joins the previously announce classes that will compete at all 10 rounds of the series: Top Fuel, Pro Gas, Draggin' Bagger, Street Pro and Hot Street. The NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series begins in March at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston.

With quarter-mile elapsed times in the low 7-second range and speeds at more than 190 mph, the Pro Dragster class offers fans and racers a thrilling entry to the thundering spectacle of nitro-powered Harley-Davidson drag racing that is capped by the awesome 6-second, 225-mph Top Fuel class.

"Anyone who loves the smell of burning nitro can share our excitement with this announcement," said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover. "Pro Dragster will be a great addition to the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series, and we can't wait for the season to get started."

To suport racers in all six classes, Harley-Davidson will offer a $177,250 purse, with payouts for event winners ranging from $4,000 to $400 plus additional payments down to the quarter-final round. In addition, class winnders at each even will receive a coveted NHRA Wally trophy in the winner's circle.

The NHRA Harley Davidson Drag Racing Series will compete at the following 10 scheduled events in 2013:

March 1-3, Royal Purple Raceway, Houston Texas
April 12-13, Virginia Motorsports Park, Petersburg, Va.
May 17-19, Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio
May 25-26, Atlanta Dragway, Atlanta, Ga.
June 14-16, Bandimere Speedway, Denver, Colo.
June 21-22, Cordova Dragway Park, Cordova, Ill.
June 19-21, New England Dragway, Epping, N.H.
Aug. 17-18, Pacific Raceways, Seattle

damn, i was hoping they would run the nitro bikes at some of the mello yello races. they run all that crappy alcohol, pro mod, stock, etc. between pro rounds at the national races...be great to see the nitro harleys run too. the least they could do would be to run the nitro harleys at some of the national events to test spectator interest.

Be nice to run the Harley fuelers against non Harleys, IDBA used to have some awsome fuel bikes, watching someone like Trett run his 900+hp bike was out of sight.

Nuts! They haven't run nitro Harley's in Pomona, CA for several years now. I sure wish they would run here! Guess I'll have to head out to Vegas to see them.

what kind of times do the nitro bikes turn? pro stock motorcycles are running in the 6.8's at close to 200 mph. these are v-rods, buells, and suzukis. think the pro stock bikes put out around 450 horsepower...a 900 horse bike should be half a second quicker?
think the n.h.r.a. is really missing the boat by not running the nitro bikes at the national events when the pro stock bikes run. might pick up a bunch of new fans...sure be more interesting than the same old cars they use to fill the time between rounds of the pro racing.

Nitro Harleys are kinda like Fuel Altereds though, only about 2 in 10 make it down the track. But it sure is fun to watch when they get a full pass in.

Trett hit 6.06 and 234 mph years ago, here's a good article on him.

I believe they have hit 250mph but couldn't find times.

At the World Drag bike Finals in Memphis years back they had a few running, unbelievably awesome.
